Iceland qualifies for UEFA 2016 in France

Iceland qualifiesThe Icelandic men’s football team made history today by qualifying for the UEFA European Championship for the very first time.

A goalless draw against Kazakhstan this evening gave the team the one point they needed to secure their ticket straight to the Euro 2016 finals in France.

Iceland went into tonight’s match needing just one point to be sure of qualifying directly to Euro 2016 as one of the top two teams in Group A.

The outcome from Iceland’s two remaining games (against Latvia and Turkey) cannot dislodge the small nation’s team from the top two of the group.

Head coach Lars Lagerbäck has taken Sweden four times to the European Championship, but when asked about this one he said “This feels special, you can feel how proud Iceland feels about it. It is special”.
