Life for Amager Attacker

The ‘Amager Attacker’ has been sentenced to life in jail for a series of murders and rapes spanning 23 years.

Copenhagen District Court erupted in cheers, laughter and tears on 22nd December as Marcel Lychau Hansen, 43, was told of his fate.

The father-of-two, who showed no emotion when his sentence was read out, has been found guilty of six rapes, two murders, a robbery and attempted arson in a string of brutal attacks which have terrorised the Copenhagen area for the last two decades.

One of Hansen’s two sons, who were present at the sentencing, is now accused of attempting to pervert the course of justice by apparently plotting to smuggle his father’s semen out of prison. Police believe he planned to place it at the scene of a new attack in an attempt to prove the overwhelming DNA evidence against Hansen was invalid.

Hansen was arrested last year after DNA evidence from his latest rape prompted police to reopen cold cases. He denied all charges and claimed that he the ‘real’ perpetrator must share the exact same genetic make-up.
