Iceland draws tough world cup qualifying group

The Icelandic men’s football (soccer) team has drawn a difficult qualifying group for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Iceland has never managed to qualify for a world or European cup finals — despite the fact that its women’s team is currently among the best in Europe.

Iceland is is Group E along with Norway, Slovenia, Switzerland, Albania and Cyprus. Iceland was grouped among the weakest teams when the groups were drawn yesterday.

Group A: Croatia, Serbia, Belgium, Scotland, Macedonia and Wales.

Group B: Italy, Denmark, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Armenia and Malta.

Group C: Germany, Sweden, Ireland, Austria, Faroe Islands and Kazakhstan.

Group D: Netherlands, Turkey, Hungary, Romania, Estonia and Andorra.

Group E: Norway, Slovenia, Switzerland, Albania, Cyprus and Iceland.

Group F: Portugal, Russia, Israel, Northern Ireland, Azerbaijan and Luxembourg.

Group G: Greece, Slovakia, Bosnia, Lithuania, Latvia and Lichtenstein.

Group H: England, Montenegro, Ukraine, Poland, Moldova and San Marino.

Group I: Spain, France, Belarus, Georgia and Finland.
