More money for Iceland bank crash investigation

olafur-thor-little1The office of Iceland’s Special Prosecutor into the banking crisis will receive and extra ISK 470 million (USD 3.5 million) this year and ISK 960 million investment next year and the year after. The total amount being spent on Olafur Thor Hauksson’s investigation has therefore increased significantly and the investigation is now scheduled to finish its job in 2014. During its entire investigation it will have received ISK 5 billion (USD 38 million) from the state.

Hrannar B. Arnarsson, assistant to Prime Minister Johanna Sigurdardottir, told that the government’s decision is in accordance with the recommendation of Eva Joly, who has placed great emphasis on strengthening the investigation into the causes and characters behind the banking collapse.
