Iceland’s famous Seamen’s Day will be celebrated in Hafnarfjordur this Sunday, 7th June. This year Seamen’s Day is being held in co-operation with the Festival of the Sea in Reykjavik and Akranes.
Hafnarfjordur Harbour is set to come alive with a varied programme of events which has been posted in the Festival of the Sea booklet to every house in the Reykjavik capital region. It is also available in English and Icelandic on .
As well as holding its own festival on Sunday, Hafnarfjordur is also this year’s ‘guest town’ at the Festival of the Sea in Reykjavik, providing visitors with a colourful insight into Hafnarfjordur’s people, environment and culture on Reykjavik’s West Quay on Saturday between 14.00 and 16.00. In addition to this, the Hafnarfjordur District Museum will hold a photo exhibition from Hafnarfjordur’s 100 year history at the Reykjavik Seamen’s Museum on Saturday, starting at 10.30.
The festival at Hafnarfjordur Harbour begins on Sunday at 08.00 with the hoisting of the flags. The main family fun events will all take place near the Hafnarfjordur fish market between 13.00 and 16.00.
Among the many activities on offer will be fun boat cruises for kids and adults, games, puzzles, face painting, fresh Hafnarfjordur Harbour fish soup, and much more.
The weather forecast is great: bright and dry, according to local Hafnarfjordur meteorologist, Siggi Storm.
Everybody is encouraged to visit as many attractions at the Festival of the Sea as they can and to enjoy the weekend as much as possible.
