Denmark’s perennially popular Roskilde Festival has completed its final line-up of musical stars and will rock out, rain or shine, from 2 to 5 July. The range of performers includes more than 150 musicians from nearly every continent and genre of music.
They will fill seven stages at the festival, which is one of the largest annual music events in Europe. Crowds of more than 75,000 are expected for this year’s show, which are being headlined by superstars like Oasis, Coldplay, Kanye West, and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. Another 74 new artists will also have the rare chance to play before the huge crowds, the Copenhagen Post reports.
The theme of this year’s Roskilde Festival is ‘Green Footsteps’, in reference to raising awareness of climate change among spectators. The festival will provide camping areas, booths selling food and drinks, a bathing area, and a supermarket.
One of the highlights at this year’s event will be the low-CO2 concerts being held on the Sustainable Stage and Odeon Stage. Deposits from empty bottles will be donated to special projects in India and Bangladesh, two countries particularly at risk from climate change.
The massive Danish spectacle kicks off 28 June with a full schedule of activities and events leading into the main musical acts. Since it first started in 1971, the Roskilde Festival has collected more than 100 million kroner and donated it to charities.
