Construction of Reykjavik’s new concert and conference centre could be delayed by up to a year – but the City of Reykjavik and the national government are understood to stand by their contractual obligation to finish the building.
Icelandic culture minister Thorgerdur Katrin Gunnarsdottir made the statement in parliament yesterday, according to MBL.is. Her remarks came in response to a question from Social Democrat Steinunn Valdis Oskarsdottir, who asked what would happen to the music hall now some of the project backers have been declared bankrupt.
Steinunn Valdis and Thorgerdur Katrin were both in agreement on the importance of completing the construction project. Keeping people employed in public sector construction fits well with the government’s recent 12-step plan to economic recovery.
